African American Women With Diabetes

Planning and preparation is underway to evaluate a specially designed intervention to enhance the disease management capacity of African American women with diabetes. The design of the intervention is drawing on previous Center work on women with asthma and heart disease. The particular challenges in managing diabetes associated with women's sex and gender roles and their social and cultural environments are central in the evolving design of the program as these factors affect management efforts and dictate needed strategies.
