Heart Disease
Heart disease is a very prevalent chronic condition that affects people worldwide. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of disability. The most common heart disease in the United States is coronary heart disease, which can lead to heart attack. The Center is interested in the unique problems that women, especially older women, face in managing their heart disease and adhering to their physicians' recommendations. In addition, work is being conducted to better understand the underlying factors that put women at risk for decline in functional status and greater health care use.
