Neurological and Digestive Diseases

Clinical aspects comprise only one aspect of chronic disease management by patients. The social, behavioral and economic factors that impinge on their management efforts can detract from and even obliterate clinical recommendations and therapies. Patient management of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis and respiratory disease has been the subject of considerable investigation regarding social, behavioral and economic influences on outcomes.  However, much less exploration of digestive diseases (such as Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, gastroparesis, Hepatitis-C, ostomates, chronic pancreatitis), neurological (such as multiple sclerosis, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy [CIDP]), and rheumatological (excluding arthritis and including, for example, fibromyalgia) has been undertaken.
